Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a significant honors show approaches, you'll find a demand for introducing additional classifications to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

My colleague previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would tabletop games, which is a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification backing this proposal is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: There should be an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of gaming, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards presently include classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Well-known matching games stand as the most-played games in the world and have been for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges popular creative games claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones within interactive entertainment, and engaging across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. It would be easy to populate a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of the video game form. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
