Automobiles in German Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Officers stated they were contacted by a man who found a car in Hanau covered with red-colored liquid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.

The substance had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was probably human blood.

"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.

Local authorities announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
